Her Canna Q&A with Judy Yee, K-Zen Beverages

Judy Yee said: “Unlike other industries, I see more opportunities for women to start their own companies, secure funding, and assume leadership roles.”

Describe yourself and what you do.

I am the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of K-Zen Beverages.

When did you get started working with cannabis? What is your vision for your professional cannabis endeavors?

I started working with cannabis about seven months ago with the founding of K-Zen Beverages. My mission is to share the benefits of cannabis to all people. Our name, K-Zen, is derived from the word “kaizen” (改善), a Japanese word and philosophy for continuous improvement in all aspects of life, and we apply that philosophy to our company and more importantly, our beverages.

What is your personal cannabis origin story?

My journey into cannabis started when I was returning to my former life as a dancer and recreational runner after taking a few years off to give birth and raise my young daughter. I found my body recovery was longer and harder, and my previous solutions no longer worked. I became curious about cannabis and started to experiment with it as an alternative solution. Incorporating cannabis into my life has been a game-changer and allowed me to return to an active lifestyle with more joy. I believe my story is one example of the many reasons more people are going to bring cannabis into their lives.

What is your Superpower?

Courage in the face of adversity

What has been your greatest obstacle in this industry or with your business to date?

Said another way, one of my biggest accomplishments professionally has been to help
mainstream organic food and beverages through greater accessibility (be available and more affordable) and consumer education.

“Incorporating cannabis into my life has been a game-changer and allowed me to return to an active lifestyle with more joy.”

What is your advice for women in the cannabis industry?

Unlike other industries, I see more opportunities for women to start their own companies, secure funding, and assume leadership roles. My vision for women in this industry is for those women who have entered to help other women get started and succeed.
