Her Canna Q&A with Dr. Shivani Amin, Green Health Docs

Dr. Shivani Amin said:
“I believe that cannabis can heal countless chronic conditions, and with more research, education and activism, we can push for legalization in our country.”

Describe yourself and what you do.

I am a huge cannabis advocate. For about a year, I practiced general medicine as well as pain management, and discovered firsthand how the opioid epidemic has affected our country. I knew that there had to be a way for patients to live their lives more efficiently, without the debilitating side effects of pharmaceutical medications or the risk of death. This inspired me to begin my journey into the cannabis industry.

I currently own and operate cannabis evaluation centers in Maryland, and we certify patients for the safe and effective use of cannabis.

What is your vision for your professional cannabis endeavors?

I started working with cannabis about a year ago. Ultimately, my goal is to treat as many patients in the state of Maryland – and other states where cannabis is legal – with cannabis as I can. I hope to use my medical background as a physician to research and better understand this plant’s capabilities.

I believe that cannabis can heal countless chronic conditions, and with more research, education and activism, we can push for legalization in our country.

The future is female! I hope to see more and more women enter this industry and educate the public on the miraculous healing effects of this wonderful plant.

What is your personal cannabis origin story?

Given my Indian ethnicity, I grew up surrounded by plants and herbs. As a child, my grandmother would always give me some form of herbal medicine when I was sick, and they always seemed to work!

I therefore have always had it in my blood to embrace and practice more alternative medicine which provoked me to start my cannabis clinics. I have personally used cannabis topicals (CBD lotion) in the past with great results for muscle pain.

What is your Superpower?

I would say my superpower has always been my empathy. Throughout the past few years, I believe my empathy has become stronger with more and more patient interactions. Hearing their stories of healing with the use of cannabis continues to fuel this.

What has been your greatest obstacle in this industry or with your business to date?

The greatest obstacle for my business has always been the fact that cannabis is still federally illegal. As cannabis is still listed as a Schedule 1 Drug under the Controlled Substances Act, I am unable to help all suffering patients get the medicine they need. This is mainly because insurance will not cover the medication costs, and people can’t afford to buy it.

However, just last week a bill was introduced to the House of Representatives to legalize cannabis. Fingers crossed this gets passed within the next few years!

What is your advice for women in the cannabis industry?

The future is female! I hope to see more and more women enter this industry and educate the public on the miraculous healing effects of this wonderful plant.

I truly believe that together, we can cultivate a nation that will benefit tremendously from cannabis.
